Robotic Mower Installation Cost: What Installers Charge in 2026

Professional installation of a robotic lawn mower in the US usually costs between $200 and $1,000. The low end covers a small, simple lawn. The dealer prices we found published sit in the upper half of that range, at $600 to $1,000 for a mid-size wired mower. Wire-free models often need no installer at all.

Installation cost at a glance

  • Small, simple lawn, wired mower: $200 to $500, the range most consumer buying guides quote.
  • Mid-size lawn, wired mower: $600 to $800 at one Minnesota installer, installation kit included.
  • All-wheel-drive mower or complex yard: $800 to $1,000 at the same installer, and more for intricate layouts.
  • Wire-free mower: often $0 if you set it up yourself. Dealers quote professional mapping case by case.
  • Do it yourself, wired mower: $110 to $250 for an installation kit.

What installers actually charge

Few installers publish prices, so the ones that do are worth a close look.

Showcase Services, a Minnesota lawn care company that sells and installs Husqvarna Automowers, lists professional installation at $600 to $800 for an Automower 430X and $800 to $1,000 for the all-wheel-drive 435X. Both prices include the installation kit.

Gardena, a Husqvarna Group brand, recruits installers with a suggested setup fee of $350 plus $1.25 per linear foot of wire. That fee covers materials, labor, burying the wire, and programming the mower. By that formula:

  • 400 feet of wire: $850
  • 800 feet of wire: $1,350
Two installer quotes built from a base fee plus a charge per foot of wire: 850 dollars for 400 feet and 1,350 dollars for 800 feet
How an installer builds a quote, using the formula Gardena suggests to installers: $350 plus $1.25 per foot of wire.

Gardena presents those numbers as examples of what an installer can earn, not as guaranteed prices. They do show how installers build a quote: a base fee plus a charge for every foot of wire. For a wired mower, the length of the perimeter drives the price more than the size of the lawn.

What a professional installation includes

Husqvarna describes its standard professional installation in the US as covering:

  • A consultation and walk-through of the property before work starts
  • Placing the charging station and connecting it to an existing power outlet
  • For wired mowers: installing the boundary wire, up to three guide wires, and wiring around up to three obstacles such as a pool or garden bed
  • For wire-free mowers: mapping the boundaries and obstacles, and mounting the satellite reference station
  • Firmware updates, app pairing, and a tutorial on settings and maintenance
  • A follow-up after installation, which varies by dealer

Husqvarna says professional installation is available in select cities only, so check availability before you buy on the assumption that someone local will install it.

What costs extra

Husqvarna lists these as additional charges on top of a standard installation:

  • Adding or moving a power outlet
  • Crossing a hard surface such as a driveway, walkway, or sidewalk
  • More than three obstacles in the yard
  • More wire or hardware than the standard scope allows

Ask for each of these as a separate line in your quote.

Wired vs. wire-free: the biggest cost factor

With a wired mower, most of the installation labor is burying wire around the edge of the lawn and around every obstacle. That labor is what you pay an installer for.

Wire-free mowers find their way by satellite positioning, cameras, or both. There is no wire to bury. Setup means mapping the lawn, usually by steering the mower around the boundary with a phone, and on some models mounting an antenna with a clear view of the sky. Many owners do this themselves.

Professional help with a wire-free mower is most useful when the yard has heavy tree cover, several separate zones, or an antenna that has to go up high. A wire-free mower can cost more or less than a wired one of similar size, so compare the total installed cost of each.

DIY installation cost

For a wired mower, a do-it-yourself installation kit runs $110 to $250 at the Minnesota installer above, depending on the size of the kit. Husqvarna lists a 164-foot roll of boundary wire at $42.99.

Plan on an afternoon for a simple lawn, and longer if you bury the wire. The main risks are wire placed too close to edges or obstacles, and wire breaks later on.

Costs after installation

The same Minnesota installer publishes its service prices:

  • Wire break repair: $150 for one to three breaks
  • Wire replacement: $299 and up
  • On-site service call: $150 for the first hour
  • Shop rate: $125 per hour

Gardena’s installer program suggests annual service packages of $250 to $500. The entry package covers replacement blades and two service visits. Higher tiers add cleaning, software updates, and inspection.

How to get an accurate quote

  • Measure the perimeter of the lawn, not only its area
  • Count the obstacles the mower has to go around
  • Note every driveway or walkway the wire would cross
  • Confirm where the nearest outdoor power outlet is
  • Ask whether the wire will be buried or pegged to the surface
  • Ask whether the installation kit and any follow-up visits are included

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install a robotic lawn mower?

Usually between $200 and $1,000 in the US. Simple lawns fall at the low end. Published installer prices for mid-size wired mowers run $600 to $1,000.

Can I install a robotic mower myself?

Yes. Wired mowers can be installed with a kit that costs $110 to $250, and most wire-free mowers are designed for owners to set up themselves.

Do wire-free robot mowers need professional installation?

Usually not. It can be worth paying for on yards with heavy tree cover, several zones, or a difficult antenna location.

Is professional installation worth it?

It tends to be worth it for a wired mower on a mid-size or complex yard, where buried wire and correct placement matter, and when you want a local company to call for service. It is harder to justify on a small, simple lawn or with a wire-free mower.
